Hugh started writing music during his time at
college and went on to compose two full length modern Operas one of
which went to the Edinburgh Festival and the other to the West End.
He made an album of original songs with folk duo ‘FRIENDS O’ MINE’
and started his theatre career 'on the road' with the BUBBLE THEATRE
in 1977.
Hugh
was asked to be Musical Director for the CHUNG YING THEATRE COMPANY
in Hong Kong in 1981 where he lived
for twenty years.
He has composed for most of the leading HK Theatre companies and was
MD for the APA’s first musical; GREASE. Most recently he has written
and recorded the 'surround sound' music for Theatre Ensemble's HK
Arts Festival production 'Shooting Suns', ‘The Game’ and ‘Manimal
Farm’. Together with Theatre Ensemble, a VCD of the three
shows has just been released.
Hugh runs KEYBOARD PILOTS MUSIC composing commercial works for film
and television. His credits include successful
campaigns for CATHAY PACIFIC, MERCEDES BENZ, TOWNGAS and DRAGONAIR.
Having helped create the Hong Kong scenery for Microsoft's
Flight Simulator 4.0, Hugh still enjoys keeping his head in the
'simulated' clouds while his feet remain firmly on the ground.
In 2002 he moved back to the UK and now
lives and works out of a digital studio in the city of
Bath.
